Software platform for configuration, operation and maintenance of intelligent building infrastructures Today’s buildings are equipped with comprehensive building techniques that are controlled, moni-tored and managed through heterogeneous information systems. However, these individual systems operate in isolation although requirements for overall management exist. For example, the optimization of energy consumption (buildings account for about 23% of total demand of electricity) can be dramatically improved when following an holistic approach that considers all ele-ments of a building automation systems. The overall management of buildings is currently fulfilled with huge effort and usually case by case. In the future, there will be a high demand for a comprehensive and more efficient management that is realised by means of integrated and intelligently co-operating automation systems in order to provide new services and to optimize costs. Moreover, an integrated management will act as one of the most important selection criteria for building and renovation contracts. Today’s offerings are limited due to weak integration, deploying building automation systems in isolation, as well as high tailoring and integration costs.

BaaS will provide a reference architecture and a comprehensive software platform for current and future commercial building management and building technology. This enables flexible and dynamic delivery of new services and the largely automated integration of existing subsystems in a cost effective manner. In addition to high flexibility in usage and integration, reliability, functional security, data privacy and information security must be guaranteed. The emerging BaaS architecture and platform will be implemented, tested and demonstrated with relevant sample applications of these new services in a correspondingly equipped real building. These results together with the envisaged standardization strategy will help the BaaS project participants to raise their competitiviness and to get shares of a market, which is estimated to reach about 64 billion euros in the year 2016.
